ELBW Hyperglycemia Management with SQ Insulin

Purpose:

To provide a multi-step algorithm guiding the use of subcutaneous (SQ) insulin to manage hyperglycemia in in the ELBW neonate.

Population:

ELBW infants

Purpose:

To provide a multi-step algorithm guiding the use of subcutaneous (SQ) insulin to manage hyperglycemia in in the ELBW neonate.  

It includes several criteria and clinical decision-making points to apply the right protocol.  

The algorithm was developed with evidence-based principles, multi-disciplinary collaboration, and an individualized approach to caring for the neonate.
