We’ve been asked several times “What do you mean this is all free? What’s the catch?” The honest answer is yes, it’s all free. No paid memberships, no dues, no freemium hook that requires a premium subscription to get to the good stuff, no bait and switch.
Why? Well for starters, I’ve been there. As a fellow looking for jobs, I struggled to find comprehensive information about types of programs, who’s hiring, or what constitutes a reasonable salary and comp package. That was in 2005.
One would think that things have improved in 16 years. But as I am repeatedly told by the fellows that I interact with…in many cases they haven’t. And this was even before a global pandemic disrupted not only the normal medical education process, but also how we network, attend conferences, travel, interview, negotiate, and onboard.
My goal is to remove the barriers, particularly financial ones, that get in the way of neonatologists finding their “ideal position.” In this understandably ‘virtual’ time we find ourselves in, I also want to ensure that online resources are timely, relevant, and comprehensive.
In full transparency, I do hope that one day we can offset the cost of creating and maintaining this site with some carefully curated affiliate advertising or perhaps enhanced job postings for attractive positions around the country, but that only happens after the website content provides value to the user. And that content will always remain free.
Our goal is value and transparency. Fellowship is 3 years, a neonatology career could span 30. Let’s maximize the chances of getting that career off the ground right!
